Monticello Wine Collection

Barboursville Vineyards and Monticello have joined together to create the exclusive Monticello Wine Collection. For more than 20 years, we have been honored to be exclusive suppliers of wines to Monticello, and proud to support the preservation of the home of one of our region's greatest statesmen, and the architect of Barboursville's own historic landmark residence.

In partnership with Monticello, a portion of all proceeds will directly support Monticello's mission of preservation and education. For your convenience, all purchases from the Monticello Collection will be combined and shipped with purchases of Barboursville wines in a single transaction, and are counted together to qualify for any discounts then in effect, respecting Barboursville Vineyards wines.

Monticello Claret

In Thomas Jefferson's time the most esteemed red wines produced in France came from Bordeaux, and were called "Claret". Our Monticello Claret is based on the noblest red wine varietal from Bordeaux, Cabernet Sauvignon, estate-grown at Barboursville Vineyards.

Monticello Vin Blanc

The foundation for our Monticello Vin Blanc is the great white varietal of Burgundy, Chardonnay, and vinified in a classic style, using no oak in fermentation or in aging. The wine is exceptionally fresh and articulate of true Chardonnay to the nose and the palate.

Monticello Octagon

The premier bottling is named for the central hall designed by Jefferson for James Barbour's plantation house, whose floor plan is celebrated in gold leaf on the label. Extraordinary elegance in Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot are blended and aged in French oak barrels.

Monticello Chardonnay Reserve

Fermented and aged by Barboursville Vineyards for 7 months in used, virtually neutral oak, the wine offers an especially luscious but focused, fresh Chardonnay aroma and flavor in the continental style, with an appropriately lengthy, elegant finish.

Barboursville Vineyards has created a classic sparkling wine based on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, vinified in the "Charmat" style well known to Jefferson. Avoidance of oak barrels has assured that the wine captures the spontaneous freshness of the young-harvested fruit.

Monticello Malvasia
price per bottle $29.95

This delicious wine is ideal for desserts, having the body and vigor of a Sauternes, but with flavors of peach, apricot, and golden raisin. In a Northern Italian "passito" style unique to Barboursville Vineyards, the grapes are air-dried for 4 months before a very slow fermentation and aging.
