This vineyard’s Pinot Grigio has established the varietal as a Virginia grape, and redeems original aspirations for a wine too often trivialised by overproduced imports. No wine grown anywhere in Virginia, even here, has been so tolerant of seasonal fluctuation, and therefore so constantly medaled in competitions. Here, it is made with classical deference to the fruit, resulting in a luscious and concentrated wine of layered tropical nuance and almost peerless palate vitality, the most exuberant white in our list after our Sparkling Brut. All of Pinot Grigio’s great love for maritime cuisine, for herb pastas and omelettes, prosciutto, focaccia, and warm weather dining of almost any likely foundation, is captured with true panache in this winery’s style.
